'Greatest Silence' to be screened
The screening of the graphic HBO documentary begins at 1 p.m. at the cinema, 2700 Greenville Highway, followed by a reception with MacDowell. During the reception, MacDowell will answer questions about the current Senate Bill, "The International Violence Against Women Act," and discuss what individuals can do to help protect women and end the violence. Doors will open at noon.
The film portrays the atrocities against the Congolese women and girls by militant soldiers in the Congo of Africa. It powerfully documents the mass rapes of women and girls as a tool of intimidation in an effort to profit from the mining of minerals such as tin, tantalum, and tungsten. These same minerals are then sold to companies in the U.S. and other countries for use in jewelry and electronics such as cell phones and laptops.
MacDowell's hopes to accomplish two things via the screening: To increase awareness about the international violence against women and raise money to support Mainstay, Henderson County's emergency shelter for victims of domestic violence.

Typical politically correct bullshyt. Let's buy minerals at a higher price instead from countries where other sins take place and pass the increased cost on to consumers. If these moonbats can show me a country whose citizens commit zero "atrocities", maybe I'll listen. In the mean time, it makes no sense for these bleeding heart do-gooders to burden others in order to falsely assuage their feelings of guilt.
