A drummer, a golfer, and a budding woodworker, 50-year-old Jeffrey Russell Cramer was also a devoted family man. Less than an hour before he died, Cramer dropped off a box of Junior Mints for his 17-year-old daughter at the doorstep of their Camden Avenue home, a token "I love you gift," his ex-wife Julia Murphy recalled.
Cramer was killed Jan. 2 when his blue Suzuki DRZ 400 motorcycle was struck from behind by another vehicle on southbound Highway 87 at Capitol Expressway. San Jose firefighters pronounced him dead at the scene.
The driver of the Honda that struck Cramer's motorcycle, Heather Anne Baxter, 24, of Antioch, was arrested shortly after the accident, on suspicion of one count of felony and one count of misdemeanor vehicular manslaughter, according to a preliminary report from the California Highway Patrol.
She has not been charged, the CHP said, and is scheduled for a court appearance Jan. 19.
Cramer was born in Ohio and came to Silicon Valley in his 20s after he was recruited by a now-defunct disc drive company, Sperry Univac in Cupertino. His last job, his family said, was working for PG&E, though at the time of the crash, he was unemployed.
