The book, which is narrated by Quentin Blake, tells the story of a young boy called Dennis who likes to dress in women's clothes and his bid to be accepted by his peers.
When it was published in Britain in November 2008, the book was a huge success and saw Walliams nominated for literary accolade Roald Dahl Funny Prize.
Before sitting down for a chat with Hunt, Walliams made a typically flamboyant entrance by sliding down a firemen's pole - how many of the chat show guests arrive on stage.
Aping the fear of Renee Zellweger's hapless singleton in Bridget Jones's Diary, Walliams hammed it up as he slid down the pole.
As well as promoting the Stateside launch of his book, Walliams is currently filming a new comedy movie with 40-Year-Old Virgin star Steve Carell.
Walliams has dyed his hair blonde to play a Swiss billionaire called Mller in Dinner For Schmucks, which is due for release this summer.
He admitted his interpretation of a Swiss accent may not be popular in Switzerland.
