How did actress Charlotte Gainsbourg get her facial scars?
Charlotte Gainsbourg has a scar on her right eyelid that runs to the side of her nose. And she has a scar on her chin that makes an L shape on the right side. But you can only notice it when she smiles. It looks like there might be other scars on her face (Left side and left earlobe) that are covered up well with makeup. I’m guessing these could be childhood scars. The eyelid scar is easily seen in her films in the 1980’s.
Any ideas what happened to her?
Recovered from emergency brain surgery, according to the clinic where she was treated. The 36-year-old had surgery to treat a hematoma caused by a shock to the head.
Charlotte Gainsbourg: 'I had no idea how scared I was of dying'
, In which she played one of Bob Dylan's wives, she suffered "a seven day headache". Back home in Paris, she went to the doctor for a check-up and found out that she was lucky to be alive."They did an MRI scan and found that my brain had been pushed to the side and my head was filled with blood," she says, sounding slightly dazed. "The doctor was totally shocked. He told me that I should be dead or paralysed."
Though the subsequent emergency surgery was successful ("It basically consisted of drilling a hole in my head"), it took Gainsbourg a long time to accept that she was well again. Until the spring of 2008, she insisted on undergoing a series of MRI scans convinced that she was going to die. Nothing the doctors could do or say convinced her that this was not the case.
"It was a strange and fragile time," she says now, her impeccably modulated English delivered in a soft, almost whispered French accent punctuated by long pauses while she pursues the right word. "The doctors kept telling me I was fine but I had some instinct that I wasn't. It was a kind of post-traumatic anxiety, constantly feeling very vulnerable and thinking I was going to die at any minute." Did it make her afraid to work? "For a time, yes. It was like I needed to be in a cocoon just with my family. I was very surprised to see how weak and fragile I was. That was very new. I had always thought I was very strong and courageous. I had no idea how scared I was of dying."

In 2006, she recorded the album 5:55 with the groovy electro-pop duo Air and Jarvis Cocker, and she has contributed to film soundtracks such as the Bob Dylan biopic “I‘m Not There” (2007), in which she also starred opposite Heath Ledger. Produced by Beck, her third album “IRM” is slated for release on January 26 by Because Music/Elektra Records.. The video for the newly released single, “Heaven Can Wait,” is already garnering rave reviews.
IRM is proving to be one of the most celebrated albums of early 2010. Vanity Fair has called it “an enigmatic, varied, and sonically complex tour de force." In a four-star review, UNCUT lauds the album’s “relentlessly forward-looking, hybridized pop vision.” Among the many others who have celebrated “IRM” are Rolling Stone, SPIN, Pitchfork, Esquire, Stereogum, Elle, NYLON and Harper’s Bazaar.
Performing live in the U.S. for the first time, Charlotte Gainsbourg will showcase material from this highly anticipated new album, in select U.S. cities and on the "Late Show with David Letterman” on January 18th.
Backing Gainsbourg in the upcoming live shows will be a highly accomplished band including Bram Inscore (bass), Amir Yaghami (strings/guitars/percussion), Brian LeBarton (keyboard), Nicole Morrier (background vocals/guitar) and Eric Gardner (drums).
IRM is the first time Beck has ever been so involved in another artist’s work. He brought in many of his regular collaborators, including Joey Waronker and James Gadson on drums, Brian LeBarton on keyboards, David Ralicke on trumpet and Beck’s father, David Campbell, for string arrangements.
