Even though Jay Leno is being made out as "the villain" in the back and forth tug-of-war to sit behind the famed desk of NBC's legendary late night shift, just remember there are two sides to every story.
Unless the story has to do with "The Tonight Show," and then, there are multiple stories.
There's been much made in headlines this week about Conan O'Brien 's departure from NBC and "losing" "The Tonight Show."
Remember, this is the same show started so long ago by the late great Steve Allen , in 1954.
Over the years, I had the honor of interviewing Allen a few times, as well as his actress wife Jayne Meadows , including chatting about the rollercoaster history associated with "The Tonight Show."
It was Allen who was first to depart "the kingdom" to get away from "the wee-hours viewership" in favor of a primetime variety series opportunity in 1957.

Upcoming 'Office' Guest Stars: Kathy Bates, Ricky Gervais?
Has always been pretty good at booking big-name guest stars, and the show has lined up another impressive get for February: Oscar-winning actress Kathy Bates will appear in several episodes, starting February 4, as the CEO of the company that purchases Dunder Mifflin. Bates has about a million credits and wide range, and I think she'll fit in well with the show's ensemble.
Perhaps more notable to longtime fans is original creator Ricky Gervais hinting recently that he could appear in an upcoming episode as his character, David Brent, from the British version of the show. Despite the many international versions that have been mounted over the years, no character from one show has ever appeared on another, and obviously Gervais is the father figure for the whole franchise. Whether it would be clever or just a cheap gimmick, however, is the real question.
