What do you think of the singer/actress Martine McCutcheon? People tend to either really like her or have a strong dislike of her...
annoying runt she is.
I will undoubtedly get moaned at for this, but whenever it comes to Ms McCutcheon, I get the strong urge to rant.
Martine McCutcheon. NO. NO. NO. Why? Christ, where do I begin? When she first emerged, pretty actress Martine came across as a funloving, sweet-natured young woman with a lot of potential. How things go wrong. After finding fame at the grand old age of 18, Martine then began referring to many of her My Fair Lady co-stars of the West End as "my cast". Er, hello, reality check, maybe? Somehow I think Jonathan Pryce and Dennis Waterman are more distinguished actors than this young lady... considering that they have been Royal Shakespeare Company performers have myriad years of solid work behind them.
You, on the other hand, Madam, had Eastenders. Wow. Alongside a couple of appalling AOR albums (what a sad waste of a damn good voice), a short stunt as Liza Minelli's bridesmaid, and a few very minor TV roles under your belt. Followed by nothing of importance, prior to your miraculous re-invention as a Hollywood extra in Love Actually.
Oh hang on - I'm being unfair... I forgot the prestigious award she received for turning up at My Fair Lady (with "her cast", one presumes) approximately once a week, when she got the lead role, years ago.
Poor Martine believed that she was fat, when she was a size 14 and looked lovely. Nothing persuaded her otherwise, not even the fact that she was constantly being voted for in World's Most Beautiful Women polls by males and females alike. So was she psychologically unwell? Obviously. Did she know it? More than likely. Did she seek help? Nope. All this was back in the late 1990s. Today, she's doing TV ads for a slimming magazine. Some things never change, it seems. It's pathetic.
Martine complains loudly about her childhood - I don't blame her, poor kid. I'm sure she did have a dreadful time back then, and I'm sorry to hear it. She uses her biography as a forum to discuss the strong, fem-positive attitude that she gained from her past experiences. Great, all well and good. BUT.... she then slinks off to the Lad Mags, and spouts off about how much she dislikes feminism - saying that she preferred the days when "men were men and women were women" (as if she had even been born back then). Makes her so called feistiness sound a little off, doesn't it?
She also never shuts up about how goodlooking she is. Yes, Martine, you're beautiful. Well, I think so anyway: you have a very lovely face. As do millions of women the world over. Deal with it and get over your self-admiration. Have some fun being yourself instead of yakking on about it. Why waste your talents worrying about your looks, particularly when you have nothing to worry about on that score? The so-called 'songs' you wasted your lovely singing voice on, though... now that's another matter.
Novel move for TV hardman Ross Kemp
Ross Kemp is to become a novelist after signing a new publishing deal.
The ex-EastEnders star has specialised in making documentaries about the military and gang culture since leaving the soap and his fiction debut will tap into his knowledge in the area.
Devil To Pay, which is to be published in July, is set in Afghanistan and London and revolves around former soldier Nick Kane.
It will be the first in a series of books featuring Kane.
Ross follows his former Albert Square co-star Martine McCutcheon into the world of fiction. She published her debut last year but faced some unflattering reviews.
His novel is the first step in a new publishing deal with Random House which was announced on Friday. He had previously worked with Penguin for the spin-offs from his TV shows.
The second title in his three-book deal with Random companies Century and Arrow will be a non-fiction project in October, with a further novel to follow next year.
Ben Dunn, publishing director of Century, said: "I am delighted that Ross is joining the Century list, I'm a huge fan of his bestselling books and thrilling documentary work for Sky.

STAR of Love Actually Martine McCutcheon has admitted she has finally met "Mr Right" - and may soon be ready to finally walk down the aisle.
The stage and screen beauty, 33, has been with toyboy singer Jack McManus, 25, for three years - after suffering several painful break-ups in the past.
And stunning Martine - who is the new face of digestive yoghurt Activia - while careful not to jinx her new-found happiness - hinted she may soon be ready to become Mrs Martine McManus.
Martine said: "I'm really happy with Jack. Who knows what tomorrow will bring, I've got no idea.

"Can I say that's definitely going to happen? Who knows? He's definitely Mr Right.
"He wants me to do whatever I want to do, and there's something about that which is really attractive.
"I am a real free spirit. I don't like to feel trapped, I've spent my life moving around, living in different places, and he lets me be that free, wild Martine.
"But he's also there for me when I'm home. We're very give and take with each other, the balance is there.
"Sometimes you have to work at that and its really hard, but what I've found with him is that it doesn't have to be, it can be easy.
"It's lovely to have that support, and my happiness is partly because of Jack because he's amazing, but it also because I have had a rollercoaster life and come through it
"It's just lovely when you find someone that makes you feel so fabulous. It's nice, and it's been a long time coming."
Martine has been hurt in the past by boyfriends who cheated on her and later sold stories about her.
But she sent a defiant message to her previous boyfriends who cruelly betrayed her.
