All that aside, we should be overjoyed that Brett Favre and the Vikings will not be squaring off against the Indianapolis Colts in Super Bowl XLIV. Can you imagine an entire week of non-stop, rapid-fire, rat-a-tat-tat Brett Favre talk? ESPN’s take alone would have caused sugar shortages throughout North America.
Sure, the Vikings story line would have been interesting. This team has made four trips to the Super Bowl and lost every one of them. It would have been nice to catch up with a couple of Grants - 82 year-old Bud Grant, who coached the Vikings in all four of their Super Bowl losses, and 80-year-old Ed Asner, who played Lou Grant in the Minneapolis-based “Mary Tyler Moore Show.”
True story: A January 11, 1975, episode of “The Mary Tyler Moore Show” dealt with a system Ted Baxter developed for picking the winners of Super Bowl games, which football-crazy Lou Grant just can’t fathom. Anyway, the episode has the Vikings knocking off the Steelers in Super Bowl IX. The only problem is that the episode aired the night before Super Bowl IX, which the Steelers won, 16-6.

These clips are from the show’s glorious first season starting with how Mary and Rhoda met and Rhoda is still fairly heavy which made her all the funnier. In the photo, she has just told Mary she can’t have any snacks before her party because “I’ve got to lose 10 pounds by 8:30.”
She also makes Mary a cheese sandwich and when Mary bites into it and remarks that it tastes funny Rhoda says: “You were out of cheese so I used yogurt.”
Rhoda slimmed down in future seasons but stayed funny. She left after season four to star in the spinoff
